Students (ALPS)? Visit
the ALPS FAQ
What time does school start?
The first warning bell rings at 7:50 a.m. and classes start at 7:55.
School ends at 2:50.
How long are classes?
Each class lasts 45 minutes. Homeroom (the second period of the
day) lasts 35 minutes, and lunch is 30 minutes long.
How much time is there between classes?
Students have five minutes to get from one class to the next.
How long is a quarter?
Each quarter is approximately ten weeks long. A semester is made
up of two quarters.
How many classes are there in the schedule?
Students in every grade have Homeroom, lunch, and seven classes
during the day. Homeroom is a time for students to learn to use the school
planner, attend assemblies, work on homework, or become involved in Homeroom
Enrichment Groups throughout the year. Homeroom Enrichment Groups allow students
to explore areas of interest for one quarter. Letter grades are not assigned
in Homeroom, so it’s a great way to try new things! Current offerings include
chess, basketball, Russian, Web design, music appreciation, soccer, literary
magazine, and many others.
Are there sports teams at the school?
Middle schools in Jordan School District do not sponsor any competitive
sports teams. Midvale Middle does offer soccer, badminton, and basketball
through the Homeroom Enrichment Program (see question #5), or you can register
for Team Sports as one of your electives. Several Salt Lake County Recreation-sponsored
teams for eighth- and ninth-grade students practice and hold tryouts at Midvale
Middle School.
How are students assigned lockers?
Lockers are assigned at registration in August. Lockers are assigned
in order, so students who would like their lockers together should register
at the same time. At Midvale Middle, each student receives his or her own
locker. The lockers are fairly large, and many have been re-painted recently.
If there are problems with a locker, please contact the Main Office and a
custodian can help.
How can new students find their way around school?
A map is provided to every student at registration, and maps are
always available in any of the front offices. We encourage new students to
spend a few minutes getting to know the school at registration or during
Back to School night the week before school starts. In addition, the building
is open every week day from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Students (and their parents)
are welcome to check in with the Main Office and visit the school to find
their classes anytime during those hours.
How do students pay for lunch?
Each student is assigned a lunch number and account at registration.
Students can pay for lunch every day at the register, or they can deposit
money in their account in the Main Office at any time. Students can then
just enter their lunch number to access the money in their account at lunch.
Help is available in the cafeteria if a student forgets his or her lunch
number.
What does the cafeteria serve?
In addition to the main lunch line, which serves a different hot
lunch item every day, pizza, sandwich bar, and salad bar are available every
day. The “a la carte” line is also available daily, offering burritos, chicken
sandwiches, ice cream, and fries. Midvale Middle’s cafeteria also offers
breakfast, including delicious rolls, oatmeal, cereal, eggs, juice, and toast.
Are there vending machines at Midvale Middle School?
Vending machines are available at the north end of the building.
Offerings include chips, peanuts, granola bars, candy, Pop Tarts, juice,
soda, and water.
What happens if a student loses his or her schedule?
A new copy of student schedules is available in the Counseling Center.
