School Community Council Meeting Minutes

1)	Members were welcomed and introduced.
2) Roles of committee members and goals of committee discussed.
3) Discussion of CSIP budget. Budget was approved.
4) Vending machines
a) Emily Davis brought up the idea of having the school run its own healthy vending machines.
b) Vending contracts are in place for the next three years.
5) Opportunities for community partnerships need to be made available to parents. We will
include that information in the next newsletter.
6) ALPS/non-ALPS division should continue to be addressed in as many ways as possible.
a) Homeroom is an opportunity to help students integrate. Enrichment clusters have provided an
opportunity for students with different backgrounds and similar interests to get to know one
another. Homeroom will continue to be adjusted as a means of helping students get to know
one another.
7) National Honor Society
a) Membership requirements were clarified.
8) Science Fair and History Fair
a) Participation in these activities was discussed. ALPS and regular honors students
both participate.
9) Integration of Hispanic students.
a) Students have been integrated into English classes.
b) Connecting with families at parent-teacher conferences is important.
i) Interpreters have been scheduled for Parent-Teacher conferences, as in the past.
10) Southwest entrance
a) The drainage is much easier to drive over than in the past.
b) The chain link fence meets the curb in two places behind the school, making it difficult
for pedestrians. We will contact the city with the concern.
11) Keyboarding classes are having software problems.
a) The administration will follow up with the teacher.
12) The next meeting was scheduled for November 18th, 2005 at 1:00 p.m.

Discussion Items:

1)	Members were welcomed and June LeMaster was introduced.
2) Minutes were approved.
3) School events were reviewed, including 21st Century grant review,
50th anniversary celebration, Senator Walker’s visit, morning library
and gym program, and the Homeroom Enrichment program.
4) Accreditation progress was reviewed.
Mission and belief statements were discussed.
5) The importance of promoting the IB program was discussed. A parent
meeting is scheduled for Midvale Middle, and student meetings will also
be held during homeroom.

Victoria Brinton will also be contacted to share information with the faculty
at a future faculty meeting concerning the IB program.
